State Honors Music Project
 

Meet the 2008 Middle Level State Honors Conductors!
The WSMA State Honors Music Project offers talented youth the opportunity to rehearse and perform with nationally-known conductors in a professional setting.
Meet the 2008 middle level conductors...

Apply for Middle Level Honors Online by 11 p.m. on February 7.
Auditions for Middle Level State Honors take place Friday, April 4, at La Crosse, Sun Prairie and Wausau; Saturday, April 5, at Appleton, Eau Claire and Fort Atkinson; and Saturday, April 12, at Kettle Moraine. To complete the Middle Level Honors online application process, you'll need your students' contact information, including email address, voice/instrument, audition date and audition location preference. Invoice and $18 fee per audition must be mailed to the WSMA office. Apply now...

View High School Honors Audition Schedule Online.
The 2008 WSMA High School State Honors audition schedule and directions to the audition locations will be posted at www.wsmamusic.org by January 18. Also available online are the High School State Honors conductor biographies, camp information, audition tips and much more. Good luck to all students auditioning.

Festivals
 

Tap Into Solo and Ensemble Resources.
Teacher Online Data Entry is open for all festivals. To register your school's events, you will need your Custom Field 1 school code (Custom Field 2) and password (wsmamember) via the "Member Schools Only" section of the WSMA web site. An array of online resources to assist in students' festival preparation, including solo and ensemble rubric forms, are available in the "Member Schools Only" section.

Marching Band Listening Sessions
 

The marching band activity in Wisconsin is growing by leaps and bounds. Many important issues face directors, staff and students. WSMA will be hosting marching band listening sessions around the state this winter as an opportunity to discuss these issues. Read on for session dates and locations...

2008-2009 Dues and Fees
 

The WSMA board recently approved dues and fees for 2008 -2009 WSMA activities. See Dues and Fees (.pdf)...

Wisconsin Center for Music Education Workshops
 

Earn Graduate Credit From Home!
The Wisconsin Center for Music Education is offering a variety of professional development opportunities for music teachers, including two online courses, which are available for credit:

January 26 and February 16
Building a Classroom Web Site (on-site version), Mike Fedyszyn, Hartland

February 4 - March 9
Building a Classroom Web Site (online version), Tim Smith, Manitowoc

February 22-23
Combining Kodály Methods with Hispanic, Beatriz Aguilar, Edgewood College

March 31 - May 4
Incorporating Information and Learning, Angela Krajnek, Sheboygan

The summer workshop schedule will be available online later in January and will include courses in notation software, SmartMusic and Smart Board technologies, audio and video recording, marching band, instrument techniques, and more.

Launchpad Competition
 

Encourage Students to Apply for Launchpad!
Launchpad is back and it's a great chance for you to connect with students beyond the music classroom! Encourage them to discover their full music potential by applying to be part of this one-of-a-kind music competition for high school students in bands formed outside of school. Launchpad is a program of the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music and was developed to celebrate the reach of music education. Application deadline is February 8, 2008. Get more information...

Vocal Jazz Institute
 

Plan now to attend the Vocal Jazz Institute sponsored by Wisconsin Choral Directors Association and Wisconsin School Music Association. Each year this Institute is offered to provide education and enrichment for experienced vocal jazz directors and those just getting involved.

The dates are August 6-7 and the Vocal Jazz Institute is available for credit. Please visit the WCDA or WSMA web site often for further information.
